The George’s Dock Lido Campaign would like to thank you for your continued support. HUGE progress has been made over the last 18 months to stop the development of a White Water rafting facility and provide Dubliners with a world-class public swimming facility instead.
Following a feasibility study, Dublin City Council have highlighted a preferred option for the landmark site, which includes an outdoor swimming facility (a Lido). This success is down to the voice of the people. Thank you all.
However, the council’s proposal has serious shortcomings. They are insisting on the inclusion of an emergency services training centre. This plan would designate half of the prime public site to a facility that would be unused for much of the year. This would hugely reduce the space available for public use and the Lido’s potential to be an entirely inclusive development with something on offer for everyone.
The people of Dublin deserve better; the optimum public option would be to combine swimming facilities, green space, and community facilities, providing a great boon to citizens and visitors, both swimmers and non-swimmers. We want to include multiple pools, diving boards, saunas, green space with public seating, performance areas, community function rooms, a restaurant and cafe, a viewing gallery and more.
We have engaged the renowned outdoor swimming architect Chris Romer-Lee of Studio Octopi to create plans for a beautiful community-centred amenity for the site
We need your support to pay for the cost-price of these plans to ensure we can clearly demonstrate to the council the site’s great potential before it’s too late. Please sign and share our petition, and even consider a donation via link below if you are in a position to do so.
Many thanks,
